Journey to EmploymenT (JET) outcomes & indicators added to the GVE

37 outcomes and 35 indicators have been added to The Global Value Exchange from the Journey to EmploymenT (JET) framework.

The Journey to EmploymenT (JET) Framework has been developed by NPC’s Inspiring Impact programme in partnership with charity and funder groups. It aims to help organisations understand and measure the impact they have on young people moving towards employment. The framework identifies a range of outcomes which influence the employability of a young person and their likelihood of finding a job.

Each of the outcomes from the framework have been suffixed with “Change in,” as these changes could be positive or negative. For example, the activities of an organisation designed to change attitudes to work could result in participants having lower aspirations for education.
In addition to providing a range of outcomes which influence employment in young people, the JET framework also provides tools for measuring each outcome. These tools have been uploaded to the GVE as an indicator and linked to the relevant outcomes.

Many of the indicators have been developed from the Department for Education’s Longitudinal Study of Young People in England (LSYPE), an annual survey of thousands of young people. It asks respondents a range of questions on:
  • the young person's family background
  • parental socio-economic status
  • personal characteristics
  • attitudes, experiences and behaviours
  • attainment in education
  • parental employment
  • income and family environment as well as local deprivation
  • the school(s) the young person attends/has attended
This makes it possible for indicators to be developed for a wide range of outcomes through identification of relevant questions from the LSYPE. Using indicators developed from the LSYPE has the additional benefit of allowing organisations to measure the effectiveness of their activities against an existing benchmark.
